DOG SHOOTS MAN

I've heard of shooting dogs, but...

I wish I could remember the headline that every noun could be a verb or mean something else, but it was something like:

ARMS CLAIM DOGS FIRM

It took me three tries to get the second headline into something that sounded like a news story! I presume it was meant to be 'A firm is dogged by a claim about arms', but that didn't occur to me until after 'Some arms take control of a firm that is owned by dogs' and 'Some arms assert that dogs are not squishy'.

I'm not entirely sure what that says about my thought processes...

I recall an even knottier one in a book on mental processes but can't relocate it - RED and BLOCK may have been part of it.

There is clearly a kind of mind which gets stuck on "DOGS MUST BE CARRIED ON THIS ESCALATOR", thinking, "But I don't have a dog."

On the Waterfalls walk at Ingleton, there is a sign saying 'Accidents have occurred to people here'

And of course the regular joke : Sign in gents Toilet said WET FLOOR so i did.

I have a feeling that I've seen something similar as well. If I have, it will be in a book by Stephen Pinker: either The Language Instinct or Words and Rules.

Mine was in a book by someone with a name like Moreton Hunt. Brain Machine?

Many people are the result of accidents :).

My grandfather (paternal) was a Special Constable during WWII, and one of his less pleasant tasks was to help bring the body of a soldier down from the fells. This soldier had been guarding a crashed enemy aircraft to prevent souvenir hunters looting it before the War Department could get to it. Apparently, he had pulled his gun towards him by the barrel. Gun was loaded, had a round "up the spout", if there was a safety, if was off, the trigger caught on a bit of branch or some roughness on the ground and went off, killing him.

This guy's lucky he'll only have trouble sitting down for a week.
