Even the rantings of a racist taxi driver (I didn't fancy waiting 30 mins for a bus from the campus on the hill) didn't dampen my enthusiasm. Went to see a film that reopened the Gulbenkian tonight - with a cast featuring Marianne Faithfull, Steve Buscemi, Barbet Schroeder, Miranda Richardson, Juliette Binoche, Willem Dafoe, Nick Nolte, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Bob Hoskins, Elijah Wood, Emily Mortimer, Natalie Portman, Gérard Depardieu, Ben Gazzara and Gena Rowlands, and directed by Olivier Assayas, Frédéric Auburtin, Emmanuel Benbihy, Gurinder Chadha, Sylvain Chomet, Ethan and Joel Coen, Isabel Coixet, Wes Craven, Alfonso Cuarón, Gérard Depardieu, Christopher Doyle, Richard LaGravenese, Vincenzo Natali,Alexander Payne, Bruno Podalydès, Walter Salles, Oliver Schmitz, Nobuhiro Suwa, Daniela Thomas, Tom Tykwer and Gus Van Sant: Paris, Je T'Aime (2006).
Go see it - it'll leave you with a big grin on your face and you don't have to leave your brain at the door.
More later.
