/F/o/u/r/ Five Things Make a Post

I am about to be migrated to Vista. Help! Can I have 3.1 back please? It was much nicer and didn't try to do stuff for me. (First lecture using Vista's version of Powerpoint today; that is a huge shift in the appearance. Where have they hidden the Open File command?)

Jacqueline Wilson has been age-banded despite her opposition to it - http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/oct/02/jacqueline.wilson.cookie.ageband - supposedly a book printed before the fuss. So much for consultation. She decided to make nice and not have the print run pulped. I see dangerous precedents.

Can I has my jolly now, plz?

Around 80 members of staff from Edensor Technology College will today check into the Andalucia Plaza Hotel near Puerto BanĂºs, while their students are off school for the rest of the week.

The 380-room hotel boasts three swimming pools, a sauna, poolside bar, beauty salon and fitness centre, and is near a casino and several golf courses.

Have suggested it for our away day next September.

Sometimes dying is no excuse - Friedrich Schiller hasn't paid his TV and radio licence fee.

The air ambulance which has been landing and taking off all day from just outside my office (I assume as drill) has stopped. Chiz.

We're not beholden to local authorities in the same way as a school. In fact we could probably apply for development leave to do it. (And it's probably easier to get to Spain than the New Hall site where we did go one year).

In any Office 2007 application the Windows logo orb in the top left is where you'll find the file open and other similar commands.

I did eventually guess this, but it's so different from XP that it's not good to be confronted with this for the first time at the start of a lecture. I was also wondering where it had hidden the n-drive, and why it couldn't read the pen drive it was pretending not to know about.

When in doubt, log out and in again. Or phone the extension number given on the equipment in the room only a) there is no phone in the room and b) the direct line isn't formed by the area code and adding two digits like other numbers on campus). Note to self: add number to mobile.

I still want Windows 3.1 back.
