Going Solo

I'm quite happy to go to films, plays, stand up, exhibitions etc on my own, because I can come and go when I please, sit where I like, and I don't have to take responsibility on whether it's any good or not. I miss the Après vu, but frankly it's more flexible.

This year I have arranged to go to the cinema five times with other people; it has been successful once. In most of those occasions I've ended up seeing the film at a less convenient time than I'd originally planned because I held back so I could go with the other parties (three separate people).

Later today I will be going to a cider celebration on my own. Given a choice I would have gone on the Saturday, what with starting the academic year on Monday. But the person with whom I've been planning to go (indeed at whose house I was possibly going to crash) texted me tonight saying he can't make it. To be fair, it had reduced to a maybe-but-let's-face-it by Friday, but if it had been a definite no on Friday - ideally on Wednesday - I would have gone on the Saturday, what with it being more convenient.

I shall now go on my own, pissed off, when had I not tried to involve someone else I would have gone on my own, content with the arrangement.

It's enough to give you a complex.

Which is why I tend to use the: "I'd doing x, at x time on x day, would anyone like to join me?" approach.

I think the resounding silence would then get depressing.
