Nothing like obscure Kentish river puns.

I must hunt for better res pictures but this demonstrates why the Saxon Shore Way is so far from the coast:

This is one, three and five meter sea level rises.

If you could click, you would be able to tell if Reculver and Richborough form the north and south entries to the channel from the Thames estuary to the English Channel, and whether Grove Ferry again needs a ferry.

It looks like the Stour is navigable beyond Fordwich (as it was around St Augustine, say C6th CE) up to Canterbury. Kewl.

Edit:

Looks like this is the work of some of my colleagues. Time to network.

We always reckoned Leamington Spa was like a seaside resort without the sea. Maybe global warming will eventually do the honours? ;-)

I suspect at that point we're really in trouble. But I guess it would depend on the sturdiness of land between there and East Anglia and the Wash.

What is clear from these maps is the Cinque Ports will be back at the coast, which isn't currently true. Dungeness Nuclear Power Station, on the other hand... (not sure about Kingsnorth). The Isle of Sheppey will need a longer bridge, although its current one is very high in the middle.
