XX: Ian Rankin, Tooth & Claw
The third of the Rebus novels, and one which takes him away from Edinburgh to London (as Banks goes in Strange Affair - of course, he's from London; his fish out of water trip is to Toronto) in order to investigate a serial killer because of his expertise (as in Knots and Crosses, although I wasn't entirely convinced). Someone is going around butchering people in the East End of London and biting their corpses. Rebus has to solve the crime and try and fit in with the London cop culture, as he increasingly suspects that it is anothe cop, and worries about his now adult daughter's choice of boy friend.

One that kept me guessing - the climax, it seems has to put a loved one in peril, although the loved one is not all she seems. I guessed the wrong candidate for the murderer (and still think my version was better). I also enjoyed the culture clash of capital cities.

Strip Jack would be next - no copy in Oxfam so will have to wait to track down a copy. I'm going to read these in order as far as I can, as there's no hurry. Need to read some Iain M. Banks for research purposes.

I can loan any of the first 10 Rebus novels as I got them in a cheap set. Haven't read beyond first three yet but am happy to lend to you. Can bring to the Clarke if you're going.

Happy to pass, actually. It's not as if I don't have other books (all the Morses, say) to read, so I'll break off as and when I find them. Thanks for the offer.
