Deja Vu all over again, again
Naturally the phrase "Phone us up if you wish to make a firm appointment" translates as "Phone us if you can hang around all day waiting for us to deign to turn up", just as "Make a convenient appointment" means "We deliver Mondays, take it or leave it."
My electricity meter was due to be changed at an inconvenient point in April, so we managed to wear it down to after 5.15 on 12 May. Not that they showed up.
I got back to a letter offering me a firm appointment of all day on Tuesday - which is about as convenient as diarrhea. Note I get to the letter after 6pm and it is a bank holiday weekend. Remarkably, the phone is staffed, and, after four menus [hit one if you have lost the will to live, hit two if you think there should be a snap election hit three if you don't see how this is better than a receptionist] I got through to an actual human being, who gave me a firm appointment of a three hour slot on 19 June.
Don't hold your breath.
