I've been following the Paul Wolfowitz scandal with the kind of interest I reserve for slugs inching across living room carpets, and was particularly amused by the earlier suggestion that he would agree to resign if they agreed he hadn't done anything wrong. That's the kind of sophistry you get when people apologise if you've taken offense. Worthy of Mr Tony.

Hey, I thought, he'll be after a job soon. And it is in the gift of the US. Probably even the idiot son.

Tom Lehrer gave up satire after Kissinger won the Nobel Prize. Some days I know the feeling: http://business.guardian.co.uk/wolfowitz/story/0,,2083373,00.html?

Way back at Christmas I was busting a gut to get the Big Project finished - I printed out the manuscript to proof, and sent what I had to the editor. I was here. Then I lost (and thankfully found) a rare book I was yet to cover, fail to proof read, failed to be able to watch a DVD of a germane drama then found an illicit source for it, covered that rare book, learned of and tracked down another half dozen relevant items, finally proofed, and tonight, after a l-o-n-g week of doing so, finally finished entering those corrections (at mostly double spaced it's 550 pages in MS). You tend to notice your own ticks when you edit, and the one I'm finding most is typing in when I mean is and vice versa. Oook. To coin a phrase

So the state of play is:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
145,236 / 160,000
(90.8%)

Now rather scarily, I am waiting for 15,000 words to come in, and must kick ass again, of those people who in November and Decemeber and April used th phrase, by the end of next week.

Still, I'm six months behind on the wretched thing. There's still a lot of apparatus and navigation to go in and an index. Shit. I hope he likes over length...
